5 Healthy-ish Tips That Will Help You Diet Better

Being Filipino, it’s no secret that I love to eat but sadly I was not born a thin woman. I recently began my annual “I need to lose 30 pounds and get in killer shape” scramble but this time, I wasn’t too far in the hole. Trying to eat well is no small task but I wanted to share some helpful tips and suggestions that I feel can help you get through the up’s and down’s without feeling totally deprived.

5. Zico Coconut Water – Dark Chocolate

This is AMAZING. I was turned off to coconut water at first because it was slightly salty but after having this chocolate one with some liquor (don’t judge) I got hooked on it sans booze. I kid you not, this shit quenches and for a woman like me who is constantly dehydrated by several intoxicants at any given time this is a godsend. Also, after a bit you develop a taste of it and it becomes refreshing. Give it a try but always drink CHILLED, if not it may taste a bit…jizzy, for lack of better explanation.

4. Steamed Broccoli & Shrimp, garlic sauce on the side

Whenever I cut down my carb intake and hone in on vegetables and light proteins I realize that my taste buds are more sensitive to fresh food than I realize. Most of the time I am too busy shoveling calories into my mouth to realize but try some steamed broccoli with jumbo shrimp or chicken, you’ll be able to taste every morsel and nuance of that ish. Trust. Keeping the sauce on the side will also make it easier to dip lightly and not OD on it. Try skipping the rice too, most of the time I will ask not to even have it included because if I see it I’ll want to eat it. Why tempt?

3. Oatmeal

I have grown to love this shit. You can’t free ball your oatmeal experience though, bulk it up with raisins, pecans, brown sugar and cinnamon. The flavors will keep you satisfied but be careful not to go overboard with any of these extras, it should be a filling experience that is tasty but not overly sweet. Play with any combo of nuts and fruits. Plus oatmeal makes a killer, low cal breakfast or even light dinner.

2. Apples + Nutella

I know you’re thinking…NUTELLA?! But ya, when the sweet craving hits hard it can make even the most strict dieter cave. Try slicing up an apple with a tablespoon of Nutella, it’s not too horrible for you and will make you feel like you are having a treat without excessive calories.

1. Think about what, why, when and how much you’re drinking liquor!!!

I cannot reiterate this enough. No one loves to party and get white girl wasted more than I do…I’m pretty much an EXPERT at this point. The problem is when you’re drinking sugary drinks or even a vodka and soda you’re probably not making the best food or lifestyle choices. There were countless times I’d be drunk a good 6 out of 7 days a week, not on some alcoholic shit but just because I was going out so frequently to shows and parties. Learn how to drink a soda two out of 3 times instead, or even go bold and drink a water. Not only will you realize how ridic many people are when they are wasted, but you will have the motivation to keep your body more liquor free. I’m not saying don’t drink, just use more discretion when plowing drinks into your gully mouth. Try cutting down to 2 drinks instead of 4, it all makes a difference.
